Although our service is suspended during the lockdown, there is plenty happening behind the scenes.
On Monday we carried out a maintenance check on our chairs and equipment, including a 'socially distanced' push along the prom.
On Tuesday we took delivery of a new chair to add to our fleet, an EZ Roller. This great piece of kit brings us up to 6 chairs, extending the options to cater for all ages and levels of mobility. The EZ Roller can also be adapted to go into the water with the addition of floats on the arms ... we'll have a look at that in the warmer weather!
Our chair of Trustees, Mick Gray says, "This is a chair that we have been after since the idea for Fleetwood Beach Wheelchairs began more than three years ago, so it's really a dream come true. Our thanks to Blackpool Palatine Rotary for their generous donation to the cost of the chair. All we need is to be able to resume our service, put the chairs back on the beach and see the happy smiling faces again."
Terry Harrison, President of Palatine Rotary added, "I have personally seen the difference these chairs make, it is beautiful to see families enjoying time together on the beach. Our members were delighted to support this as my President's project, it will be so good for people visiting our coastline and we look forward to a wonderful summer for us all."
Rotary International has been integral to the success of the beach wheelchairs story since the start. Fleetwood Rotary also made a donation towards a chair and many local Rotarians give their time as volunteers.
Our thanks to everyone who has and continues to support us, we hope to see you all again soon. Take care.
